Encouragement in a Civic

For the last eight years I've been talking about moving away from Southern California. I've made very loose lists of places I would like to go, but it never really mattered how they were ranked. Now I'm reaching the point where I almost have a date set, and while it's still over a year away, it somehow seems real. I still need to research some more, but a phone call from the cuz (barrettbenson.blogspot.com) moved Portland, OR from a nice idea cracking the top ten to the top of the list. I've only spent two weekends in Portland, but it rubs me right. I have more acquaintances than friends there, but it has loads of potential. I am encouraged that I can handle the rain by it's inclusion on frequent Best Places to Live lists, as well as the testimonials from past and present residents. A couple of weeks ago I got to put a mark in the plus column that is not open to the subjective interpretation of others. Driving on the 215 I see an Oregon license plate gracing a Honda Civic, the frame from Beaverton, which is essentially Portland. As I pass, I am pleased to see that the female behind the wheel is attractive, lacking all of the traits of the stereotyped Portland Granola Girl. I am not concerned that she was not in Portland. I am not concerned that there was a dude in the passenger seat. I am perfectly content to rationalize my desire to move to a place I know little about, whether the reasons are legitimate or imagined. I see the glass as half full. I don't have a lot marks in the minus column for Portland, but the one that most people point out first is the rain. But there is a silver lining on even that cloud -- I like wet girls. Viva Portland!

I want to make sure Chico is in the consideration. Lots do do here, without the harry armpits and slow drivers u will find in Oregon!

Well, I was born and raised in Cottage Grove, Oregon, and I have a lot of family and friends in Portland, too. I just came back from Eugene airport 2 weekends ago (my parents still live there in Cottage Grove), and the summers are SO PERFECT. Great wine country...the best dark and white natural truffles are imported from Oregon, there are the biggest and ripest and sweetest blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries right in our back yard, not to mention the groups of wild deer and turkies that visit multiple times a day. The rain is a welcome to the change of season and everything is GREEN THERE, nice to look at, unlike the concrete dry slabs of fire-prone California. I miss home, and was so happy to see you there. Portland IS AWESOME! My friend from the PT dept. at the hospital just moved there last month, and she is SO HAPPY! She was sick of the big dry city and no opportunity for outdoor activity, too. And the girls there don't have the attitude CA girls do, much more humble...if you like that kind of thing. Portland has a good Adventist hospital and churches. And there is a lot of WORLD-CLASS VEGETARIAN FOOD AND MARKETS EVERYWHERE! yum yum yum....so happy you are interested in my homeland! :) Luv, Cheris (I'll post some photos on Facebook from my trip soon so you can see the area I grew up)

should you really be leaving in a year, know that i will be your first portland house guest. wherever there are wet girls, there has to be boys....and you know im all about the boys. especially ones that could potentially be wet...

Although cheris brings up some good points about Oregon I just want to say that CA girls should not all be lumped together as having an "attitude". I like to think attitudes are everywhere just depends on happiness.

Another person who might say they like wet girls is Derek Zoolander, as proven by this famous pretend advertisement:

"Moisture is the essence of wetness, and wetness is the essence of beauty."
